    Instructor: Ballroom, Country, Salsa, Swing, Tango

    John Henry has been a dancer for 27 years.  He has a thorough knowledge base of the history of all partner dances including Latin, American and International Social Styles. He captures the attention of audiences and students with an engaging, fun-loving style that respects diverse audiences and all levels of skill and expertise.
    In 1993 he began his professional teaching career as a dance instructor and professional swing dance performer at Arthur Murray Dance Studios in San Francisco, CA.
    His professional experience continued to grow in San Francisco teaching Ballroom, Swing, Salsa, and Argentine Tango at the following locations:
    • Fred Astaire Dance Studio
    • Broadway Studios 
    • San Francisco Dance Center
    In 1999, John moved to Taos and founded Double Time Dance Studio.  In 2007, he moved his business to Albuquerque to continue to teach and share his passion of dance. He has since taught at Los Alamos, Taos, and continues to teach for the University of New Mexico.
    John specializes in Salsa, Swing, Country and Tango. He's had a successful career motivating people with dance and extensive expertise in dance technique and execution.
    He is very skilled at breaking down complex patterns to the basic moves and in identifying problems and correcting techniques. Studied with many of the best-known dancers of this generation, including Carlos Gavito (lead dancer in Forever Tango), Pablo Verón (star of The Tango Lesson) Bob Collins of Arthur Murray (a trainer since 1946); Nestor Ray (tango teacher to Robert Duval), and Frankie Manning (the grandfather of Swing). 
    John has entered and won numerous dance competitions throughout his busy career:
    • 2009: Salsa Mambo Festival 1st place Professional Jack & Jill competition
    • 2006: Cowboys 1st place dance competition
    • 1999: Lucky’s Belvedere Lounge (Santa Fe) 1st place (Swing)
    • 1997: Bimbo’s (San Francisco), “Greaser’s Ball” 1st place (Swing)

     He also taken part in the following events:

    • 2002-2006: Michael Martin Murphy’s Country Christmas (performance, group instruction)
    • 2005: Albuquerque Magazine (Casino-style Salsa)
    • 2001 – 2003: Performed for Taos Dance Coalition
    • 2008: Choreographed and danced in  “Husband for Hire” taught actors Mario Lopez, Eric Estrada and Nadine Vasquez

  • Mike Garcia

    Instructor: Swing

    Mike has been a professional dancer since 1996. His quest to learn from the best teachers and dancers in the world has taken him as far as Sweden. Among his coaches was Frankie Manning, the “Ambassador of Lindy Hop.”  He has taught swing dance at St. John’s College, the College of Santa Fe, the World College in Las Vegas, N.M., and for 3 years was a mentor at the Monte Del Sol middle school.  

    Mike recently took on the roll of being the dance choreographer for the television series the “Manhattan Project”. He continues to live his passion as dance instructor with Dance Station where he continues to teach classes perform and choreograph local performances and student showcases.

    Double Time Dance Studio is happy to have Mike travel from Santa Fe to teach at our studio.  His professionalism, graceful dancing, and unique style make a wonderful addition to our team.

  • Damian Lobato

    Guest Instructor: Tango

    Damian started dancing in 1991 with renowned milonguero masters, including "El Pibe Palermo," (the former partner of Carmencita Calderon). After 8 years of dancing this style, he started training with Gustavo Naveira and Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli, and began teaching tango in different cities around Argentina until 2002. Since 2002, he has taken part in Tango Discovery in Argentina, invited by Mauricio Castro and in 2003, 2004, and 2005 he was invited to tour Central America and Europe. Together with Dutch and French dancers he took part in "Tangokobinat," a tango show presented in Germany in February 2005. In 2006, he assisted Fabian Salas in CITA, the annual tango convention in Buenos Aires. Since May 2006, he has been teaching extensively in Europe in such places as London,Rotterdam,Pisa,and Barcelona.
    Damian's dance is characterized by a masterful combination of nuevo tango elements with traditional tango aesthetics. Seamless transitions between the various elements and a keen sense of musicality are emphasized in his dance and are applied in his teaching, training, and dancing.
  • Kara Voss

    Yoga Instructor

    Kara has been practicing yoga for nearly 20 years and teaching since 2011.  In addition to receiving her teacher certification from the International Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centre in California, she has also trained at the  Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre in Northern India, and has studied and practiced Somatic Meditation for the past seven years with the Dharma Ocean Foundation based in Boulder, Colorado.  Kara recently moved to Albuquerque after living and teaching primarily in Mexico and Guatemala for the past several years.  She brings to her classes a passion for yoga as a holistic health care system which incorporates and balances body, spirit, and mind.  Through her open and flexible approach to teaching she invites each student to explore their own personal relationship to each of the fundamental aspects of yoga.  It is her belief that everyone can benefit from a regular yoga practice and experience a genuine shift in their lifestyle from merely surviving to joyously thriving!
